EDGE GRAIN
Kitchen Collection
Edge grain exposes the long edge of the wood, creating a durable cutting surface while preserving beautiful linear grain. Lighter and easier to handle than most end-grain boards, it balances durability, knife friendliness and everyday practicality.
The everyday balance.

Natural beauty on display.
Face grain showcases the broad surface of the wood, revealing its colour, figure and natural character. Designed primarily for serving and presentation, it creates a beautiful surface for entertaining while remaining suitable for lighter preparation.
Where craftsmanship becomes expression.
Signature & Specialty pieces explore distinctive forms, natural edges and purpose-built designs. From live-edge slabs to elevated serving pieces, each celebrates the wood while bringing something unexpected to the table.
UNDERSTANDING THE BOARD
From high-performance cutting surfaces to statement serving pieces, each construction serves a different purpose. The right choice depends on how you plan to use it.
Different construction. Different purpose.
STONE / GLASS
Beautiful to serve on.
Terrible to cut on.
X
DESTROYS SHARP EDGES
Extremely hard surfaces rapidly dull quality knives.
X
ZERO GIVE
The blade repeatedly impacts a surface dramatically harder than wood.
X
SLIPPERY & UNFORGIVING
Smooth polished surfaces provide little cushioning or grip.
X
WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB
Excellent for presentation; poorly suited to repeated cutting.
X
X
X
PLASTIC
Cheap convenience.
Hidden trade-offs.
SHEDS MICROPLASTICS
Cutting and wear can release plastic particles directly into food.
X
X
GROOVES HOLD CONTAMINATION
Deep knife scars become increasingly difficult to clean effectively.
X
X
DISPOSABLE BY DESIGN
Once deeply scarred, it is typically replaced rather than restored.

X
MORE PLASTIC WASTE
A worn board becomes another petroleum-based product headed for disposal.
OTHER CUTTING SURFACES
Not all boards
are created equal.
Every cutting surface involves trade-offs. Some prioritize low cost or easy cleaning, but compromise knife performance, longevity or the quality of the working surface. Here's why Rose Studio chooses hardwood for the everyday kitchen.
BAMBOO
Looks natural.
Performs very differently.
X
HARD ON KNIVES
Bamboo's hardness and silica content can accelerate dulling and even contribute to edge damage.
X
POOR CONSTRUCTION
Most boards are assembled from many laminated strips rather than solid hardwood.
X
X
CAN SPLINTER OR SEPARATE Damage to laminated fibres or glue joints can leave rough surfaces and make the board difficult to restore.
X
LIMITED REPAIRABILITY
Deep damage or separation is often unrepairable.

X
METAL
Built to last.
Your knives aren't.
X
RAPIDLY DULLS KNIVES
Hard metal surfaces can cause sharpness to deteriorate very quickly.
X
NO GIVE BENEATH THE BLADE
Cutting force is reflected back into the knife rather than absorbed by the surface.
X
X
MORE HAND FATIGUE
The unforgiving surface can make repetitive preparation less comfortable.
X
FOOD CAN SLIP
Testing has found ingredients more prone to sliding on metal cutting surfaces.
